I started rekordbox ver. 6 with an empty library. How can I convert my library from ver. 5 (or earlier) and import it after starting ver. 6?

Go to [File] > [Library] and select [Import your library from ver. 5 (or earlier)].

Follow the on-screen instructions to convert the library.
